How would you describe IHMSA to a beginner?
The most noncompetitive competitive shooting sport there is. Most matches are just you competing against yourself, trying to shoot a better score and reach new goals. I see shooters at every match helping other shooters with something, weather it is a different hold, trying a different powder or bullet or ....
I have had shooters in my class, shooting at a state match give me ammo to finish the match after I realized I wasn't doing a perfect job with my new Dillion Press
We are just a bunch of pistol shooters having fun knocking down steel with all kinds of handguns. It is much easier to come to a match and watch to see just what it is about. You may want to bring a gun and at least 40 rounds of ammo with you, but I am sure someone will offer a gun to try if you are interested.
Where are some good places to get training?
Just show up to a match with hearing and eye protection.
What type of gun is good for a beginner, assuming that this person may not have the guns already.
I think the Contender is the most versatile gun to have. With different barrels you can shoot all but revolver classes.
What other equipment is needed for a beginner?
Eye and hearing protection and ammo. A spotting scope is nice but there is usually someone that will spot for you.
Thank you all for your time and good info. |
